The Place to Find Hidden Treasures...

OUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED!

We found a location to operate the Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop. We officially opened on Tuesday May 1st, 2007 on the lower level of the Norway/Paris Solid Waste facility at 39 Brown Street in Norway, Maine, (across from Amato’s and on the corner of the Oxford Networks Office and the Cafe Corner). It is just a little over 2 1/2 miles from the teen center that is located on 254 Webber Brook Road in Oxford. We had been considering the thrift shop idea for over 5 years and was seriously searching for a location all over the Oxford Hills and surrounding area until we found it. We would like to thank Norway/Paris Solid Waste Committee members: Roy Garnett, Bruce Hansen, John Morgan, and Dundee Pratt for helping us make this happen. The Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop is managed by Bert Rugg.  We are open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM.

The Norway/Paris Solid Waste facility is closed on Mondays and Thursdays, so we are not able to operate and are closed on Sundays to honor the Lord.  We started out with a 16’ x 24’ building that was formerly called Ruby's Goldmine and operated for 2 or 3 years up until we took it over May 1st of 2007.  We quickly outgrew the little building and began looking into the idea of getting a 24' x 60' double wide from Schiavi Leasing.  After debating back and forth with the town of Norway and Paris we purchased a double wide from Schiavi Leasing, had it moved on location, got it put together by Christmas of 2007 and put in the electric service and got the heat going and started operating in the our new building with 1000 square feet of merchandisable space Jan. 17, 2008.   We also put in 2 big 48’ storage trailers to store items for our yard sales and for the thrift shop. We do all we can to get the word out about this new venture through the media and word of mouth and proper signage. The Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop is used to help us raise funds but it is also used to give the youth an opportunity to volunteer and learn about a good work ethic and to help them attend various activities we do during the year, like the big bike trips, our fall bike trip to Gorham NH, the winter retreat in February, and other outreaches coming up.

We are looking for volunteers to run the thrift shop so that Bert will be able to concentrate on the daily operation, goals and mission at His Place Teen Center.

We would like to see the youth volunteer some time to stock the shelves and tables with merchandise.   This would provide them with the opportunity to develop a good work ethic, being on time and establish a positive work history and references that would ultimately help them prepare for careers at local businesses in the community and around the country.  Over the years we have had many young people that have come through His Place Teen Center and placed in local businesses and helping them establish good careers.
